Barker Hokkaido
This is my first tanto design. I call it the Hokkaido. The grind and handle design was inspired by the late Bob Lum’s work. The blade itself maintains its full thickness right up to the tip. The tip has be convexed to make a very strong edge for penetration. This is know as the American Tanto which Bob Lum perfected.
The blade is made of CPM 154 3/16″ thick that has been hollowed ground with a convexed tip for strength. The blade has a 6.0″ cutting edge with a hand satin finish. The Rockwell hardness of the blade is 60. The bolsters are 316 stainless steel with a satin finish and the sclaes are desert ironwood on a tapered tang. The overall length is 11.0″. This design is available for custom orders in other lengths. The base price on this model is $350.

The tip design on this knife is particularly pleasing to the eye.

Hokkaido!!!!!!!!Beautiful!!!! John, keep me in the loop for a small REAL quick…John has the BEST grind around and a great guy to just talk to and shoot the bull with,Jim
That Hokkaido is sweeeet! You have indeed captured the feel of the Lum classic grind. I’m glad to see it too, I love the Lum tantos and this one is both reminiscent of Lum while adding some unique, tough Barker ergos that make it an even better custom.
